An explosion erupted in the Black Sea port of Odesa on Wednesday, just before a scheduled meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Despite this, the meeting proceeded without disruption.
According to Greek government sources, the prime minister and other Greek officials in Odessa were not threatened by the explosion, which reportedly occurred approximately 200 meters from their location.
The meeting between the Ukrainian and Greek leaders continued uninterrupted.
Later on Wednesday, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias spoke with his Ukrainian counterpart, Rusten Umerov, via telephone to discuss the security situation in Ukraine.
Prime Minister Mitsotakis is set to travel to Bucharest, Romania, to participate in a two-day conference organized by the European People’s Party, which will include discussions on the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
