On May 11, 2022, Israeli soldiers shot and killed renowned Palestinian American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh while she was reporting in a clearly marked press vest and helmet. Shireen was a trailblazing journalist who dedicated her life to sharing Palestinian stories. In the face of Israel’s attempts to silence Palestinian journalists, she worked tirelessly to ensure Palestinian voices were heard throughout her decades-long career. Led by her niece Lina Abu Akleh, Shireen’s family has spent months endlessly fighting for accountability for Shireen. Nearly a year after her murder, they’re still waiting for justice for Shireen.
