A majority of voters in California plan to vote ‘yes’ for an initiative to legalize marijuana for adults this November.

According to a Probolsky research poll released late last week, sixty percent of those surveyed say they will vote in favor of an initiative “that would legalize marijuana for recreational use under California law and allow government to tax” its retail sales. Thirty-seven percent said they would vote ‘no’.

The Adult Use of Marijuana Act (AUMA), if passed, would permit adults to possess up to one ounce of cannabis and/or up to eight grams of concentrate. It would also allow adults to grow their own, up to six plants.

The poll showed that support for the measure was strongest among Democrats and those between the ages of 18 to 34. Support was weakest among Republicans and those over the age of 65. Initiatives for recreational adult use are expected to appear on the November 2016 ballot in Arizona, Maine, Massachusetts, and Nevada. All initiatives were recently endorsed by the National Organization for the Reformation of Marijuana Laws (NORML) Board of Directors, per Paul Armentino, NORML deputy director, as well as medical marijuana initiatives anticipated to appear on the ballot in Florida and Missouri.
